Critical Collapsology at the New Centre

The New Centre for Research & Practice, February – September 2025. Eight lectures, in two parts.

A course I ran for the New Centre for Research & Practice, in which I built the theory of collapse I had been circling for years and drew out what it means for emancipatory politics.

The first four sessions, Theory and the Ends of Worlds, went through collapsology as it stands — prophecy, prepping, resignation and all — and put a critical framework under it: what social structure is, how it comes apart, and what a society that may not survive itself can still be said to owe its members.

The second four, Limitless Risk, took that framework to the risks themselves: AI, climate change and demographic pressure treated as one account rather than three separate apocalypses, and the political strategies that follow from it.

The lectures are the first working-out of Critical Collapsology, the book, which is being written in the open at Crude Futures.
