Collapse
Crude Futures
A substack about collapsology — and, eventually, a book.
Crude Futures maps the terrain of collapsology: the study of a society that may not survive itself. It began as a flexible platform for short-form writing about the unravelling of the structures that make our collective lives possible, and is heading toward something more systematic — a book.
The aims are several and intertwined: to provide a story of the collapse as it happens; to offer comfort and company to a community of anxious people; to learn from them how to make our lives more resilient; and to attempt a new kind of political theory out of the realisation that this society could fail. I’m after an account of why the world has entered a structurally disregulated phase — one that doesn’t rest on a personalistic reading of Trump or any single figure.
